Boart Longyear Operational Excellence Manager - Canada in Mississauga, Ontario
The Operations Excellence Manager will be responsible for defining, maintaining and tracking Drilling Services Full Potential Continuous improvement program across Canada. The manager will also manage and train Operational Excellence (Opex) Resources within Canada, to ensure the frontline process best practice and structural improvement initiatives are well defined and tracked per division manager.
Lastly, the Canada Operation Excellence manager will be responsible for process improvement of key DS processes, productivity data collection and reporting, and creating/improving Drilling Services’ project management capability.
The Canada Operations Excellence Manager will report directly to the Canada Regional Director, with a dotted line to the Director of Engineering, Drilling Services/ Global Operational Excellence Director.
Supports the definition, yearly refresh and implementation of structured continuous improvement activities across global drilling services business.
Partners with Regional Director to ensure that structured continuous improvement initiatives are well defined, resourced and are delivering value.
50% travel into Canada per month (during the week) to spend time with division managers, supervisor and in-line operational excellence leads
Co-ordinates internal team of in-Opex Leads to ensure that improvement activities defined, executed and tracked in a standard way
Manages 2-3 high value process improvement projects across Canada in addition to the above responsibilities to improve Canada earnings/ efficiency
Maintains process conformance audit of HWC (Hard work cycle) frontline and meeting process
Works to standardize production reporting systems in Canada ensuring central capture of production data and rapid reporting to the field
Works to standardize key Canada project management processes and to define and build an internal project management capability
Key skill requirement:
Strong problem-solving skills
Deep knowledge of business improvement philosophies and their respective tools – e.g. Lean, Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints (TOC)
Business process reengineering (BPR) experience
Project management experience; understanding of project management fundamentals
Strong communication, presentation, relationship building and strategic planning skills
Strong time management, goal setting, and task prioritization abilities
Proficiency in reporting project progress through dashboard presentations, project metrics, trend analysis, executive reporting
Working experience in PMO (Project Management Office) organization structure
Highly competent computer skills in Excel, PowerPoint, MS Office and
Business Intelligence and project management software experience an advantage
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in engineering, business process improvement, consulting and/or project management
A minimum of 5+ years of experience in business improvement, consulting, relevant industry experience or equivalent
MBA or advanced degree a plus
Formal lean/ six sigma training/ certification an advantage
Formal project management training an advantage for example – PMP, Prince, or equivalent
