Job Description:

Boart Longyear is hiring a new M&E Tooling Specialist to work in our corporate office in Salt Lake City, UT. This key position is part of the global product management team, collaborating cross-functionally across Boart Longyear. Interactions are frequent with Engineering, Drilling Services, 3 rd party customers, Supply Chain, Sales, and Marketing.

This is a qualified technical role that also requires business acumen and interpersonal skills. Product support responsibilities cover the full M&E product line, including exploration drill rods, wireline systems, and diamond products. Specific focus will shift over time depending on needs, problems, and opportunities, but will include elements of field testing, inventory control, and sales support. Although directly reporting to the Products division, close cooperation with Drilling Services is essential to collect feedback and drive adoption rates.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5 years of relevant experience in mining, construction, civil engineering, or similar. Practical experience in exploration or other rock drilling a bonus.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Materials, Mining, Industrial Engineering or Geology preferred.

  • Experience with industrial physical and consumable products, ideally with an understanding of items that wear or deteriorate due to applications damage.

  • Understanding engineering processes, from conceptualization, design, sourcing, manufacturing, logistics to field testing and feedback.

  • Detail oriented to ensure systems, specifications, and data are valid.

  • Strong communication and writing skills. Proven ability to inform, train, and interact with people at all levels. Ability to filter information and condense into decisions and actions.

  • Ability to set up clear processes and protocols. Create clear expectations.

  • Creative and critical mindset to proactively avoid problems or find solutions.

  • Demonstrated leadership and strong project management skillset.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally on multiple projects with tight deadlines. Follows up and holds others to timelines.

  • Research skills and the ability to analyze, summarize and consolidate information.

  • Available to travel domestically and internationally when needed.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Plan, drive, and document field trials of beta and pilot product programs globally, including coordination of rapid engineering and product supply.

  • Establish strong protocols for field trials, including objectives, feedback, and accelerated commercial conversions.

  • Personally attend field testing to support local resources.

  • Drive SKU level cost-out initiatives and support value engineering.

  • Coordinate SKU management outside the Engineering and Oracle teams, driving reactivation, substitution, and other flags.

  • Create or review technical contents for Marketing, including technical material such as specifications and commercial contents such as case stories and customer references. Provide or correct technical data.

  • Develop technical training materials for new and existing employees, including sales reps, CSRs, and engineers.

  • Provide applications and product expertise for major tenders and contracts.

  • Analyze inventory turn data and trends for specific product groups or SKUs. Track high-dollar inventory items.

  • Monitor and update ROPs during phase-in and phase-out.

  • Support specific opportunities to consume unhealthy inventory. Develop tools for easy product identification and possible substitution.

  • Coordinate new product adoption with DS, including feedback, development, training, and supply.
