Boart Longyear Product Manager Capital Spares in Salt Lake City, Utah
This position is part of the global product management team in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The position of Product Manager Capital Spares is responsible for supporting profitable growth in the Products organization through the commercial management of drill rig spare parts and aftermarket support resources. The primary objective is to drive spare parts sales. It is a highly qualified role that requires strong cross-functional collaboration, particularly with Engineering, Supply Chain, and Sales. Support and training of customers and internal resources is critical. Building on the existing business segment, the Product Manager both develops the long-term vision as well as executes the plan to optimize both company and customer success. Although commercially focuses, the role requires a strong technical understanding and engagement.
Minimum 3-5 years of relevant design or technical experience with machinery or heavy equipment. Longer experience or a specific background in the mining or construction industries, or in spare parts, is a plus.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering and/or business or a two-year degree with extensive and relevant experience. A technical background in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering may be ideal.
Prior exposure to financial management such as margins, inventory turns, and return on capital, is highly valuable.
Familiarity with supply chain and logistics networks a plus.
Analytical skills, attention to details, commitment to accurate results, and desire to take full ownership for area of responsibility.
Demonstrated ability of providing results and specific deliverables on hard deadlines.
Interpersonal skills to gain support from personnel in other functions.
Strong communications skills, verbally and in writing.
Inquisitive mind to understand how equipment works and customer needs to ensure reliable operation.
Experience in MS office a must. Experience in Oracle and Windchill is a plus.
Experienced in creating preventative maintenance plans and Life Cycle Cost models.
Available to travel 10-20% internationally when needed.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Ownership of commercial parameters for spare parts, including cost analysis, pricing strategy, profit margins, and inventory turn. Key Spare Parts liaison for Boart Longyear with engineering, marketing, manufacturing, sourcing, finance and legal.
Facilitate the collection of customer spare parts needs and translate to measurable supply chain demands. Gap analysis calculations based on regional population and support for marketing plans.
Drive development of the digital platform SPIN (Spare Parts Information Network), making it easy for customers. Ensure online access to real time information and instant purchasing. Add contents, e.g., images, bulletins, manuals, or videos.
Analyze and evaluate parts consumption history, make stock recommendations, and rationalize the total number of SKU’s offered to eliminate redundancy.
Drive initiatives for scrapping, rebalancing, promotion, or write-off of unhealthy inventories, whether due to lack of local demand, substitution, or end of support period.
Direct branding practices to protect market share of purchased components (private labeling). Ensure proper spares branding for new products or changed designs.
Support Regional Sales to develop organizations and strategies that actively drive the spare parts business.
Product Lifecyle management duties including ramping up support of new products and discontinuance of support for legacy machines according to business guidelines.
Analyze and approve engineering changes as relating to spare parts strategy.
Drive Service and Safety Bulletin creation, implementation, and tracking.
Primary owner of Service section of new rig manuals, coordinating with Product Manager Capital Equipment (Operations section).
Partner with Technical service group and Business Partners to translate practical service requirements into customer support documentation.
Drive resolution of customer issues, working with sales, customer support, manufacturing, and engineering.
